This project enhances firefighter response times and provides additional health and safety benefits at Peoria Fire Station No. 193.

To support the station’s growing functions, the design focused on adding a fourth apparatus bay. New and updated features include a turn-out gear locker room to store clean gear away from running diesel engines, reconfigured storage areas, increased natural light, and a new fitness room.

Initially, the project scope included adding new storage spaces. However, the DFDG team determined that reconfiguring existing storage areas would meet the same needs more effectively. Now, all four apparatus bays are clear of storage, resulting in faster response times.

Reallocating the budget allowed for the construction of a new 2,000-square-foot fitness room. This space includes an overhead beam for various exercise equipment, enabling quick reconfiguration to adapt to daily workout requirements. A coiling door can also be left open to extend the fitness area to the rear apron, providing more room for outdoor workouts.
