The renovation of Peoria Fire Station 192 showcases the close collaboration between the City of Peoria, the Peoria Fire Department, and DFDG. Through detailed renderings, the City was able to visualize the proposed building addition during the design phase, ensuring seamless integration with the existing structure. The addition includes a low-acuity apparatus bay with a separate turnout gear storage room, a spacious fitness room, a restroom, and four additional individual dorm rooms.
Prioritizing firefighter health and safety, the apparatus bay is equipped with an exhaust system that removes vehicle exhaust and toxins while maintaining negative air pressure to prevent contaminants from infiltrating living areas. An airlock serves as an additional barrier between the apparatus bay and the living quarters. The HVAC system in the living area creates positive air pressure, directing airflow toward the apparatus bay exhaust to further safeguard against pollutants. Each bedroom features operable exterior windows for natural light and emergency egress, plus desks and storage space for personal use.
The interior design is tailored to meet the specific needs of firefighters, and special attention was given to the exterior aesthetic. The addition blends with the existing building, maintaining architectural consistency through similar materials and colors.
Peoria Fire Station 192 highlights the results that can be achieved through close collaboration between client and architect, reflecting a shared commitment to enhancing the safety and functionality of fire stations for the benefit of all.
